Doerr Neighborhood Association
Mission
The purpose of the Doerr Neighborhood Association is to build community by connecting and advocating for residents, sharing information, promoting activities, and fostering civic engagement in our diverse neighborhood.
What we can help with
The Doerr Neighborhood Association (Doerr NA) is the official voice of the Doerr neighborhood to the City of San Jose and the D9 Leadership Group. We are an independent, self governed group of neighbors that work in conjunction with city and community leaders but are not beholden to them. We advocate for traffic enforcement, crime awareness, safety improvements, and other city services related to roads, park, and neighborhood quality of life.
What we've done
Doerr Park:
Doerr NA volunteers regularly work to improve Doerr Park including multiple clean up days where we've weeded, removed overgrown ivy, cleaned up downed tree branches, painted the restroom building and benches in the tot lot, and cleaned the playground equipment.
We purchased and installed an announcement board to inform neighbors of contact info and upcoming events.
We've planted 15 new trees and a flower garden (by the Doerr Park sign). We water the trees we planted and the flowers each week. Read more here.
We maintain and fill the dog bag dispensers at Doerr Park.
We added an additional dog bag dispenser on Comstock near the pathway to the park.
Events:
Hosted National Night Out in 2023 and 2022 at Doerr Park - check out our photos
Trash pick up: Volunteers pick up trash around the neighborhood and at Doerr Park
Traffic:
We advocated for neighbors when the D9 Council office proposed changes to Foxworthy Avenue.
We requested/received red curb painting at the corner of Doerr Park (at Park Wilshire) and also on Potrero near Quinto.
We successfully worked to get a traffic study conducted on Dumbarton Avenue which resulted in the installation of additional traffic signs and traffic enforcement. Post COVID, when traffic patterns return to normal, the City has agreed to look at further modifications as necessary.
We asked for and received enforcement from the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) including temporary placement of the traffic speed radar trailer on neighborhood streets.
Communication with City:
There is ongoing communication between Doerr NA, the City, and SJPD on issues of importance to neighbors such as crime, safety, homelessness, and code enforcement issues.
